Sen. Lesser, Rep. Wagner and Western Mass delegaiton announce 2020 funding for Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls clubs will exceed $2 million
CHICOPEE – Senator Eric P. Lesser, Representative Joseph F. Wagner and members of the Western Mass. delegation announced Friday the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs will receive $2.2 million in funding for fiscal year 2020, which will be dispersed to each club throughout the commonwealth.
The total represents a $500,000 increase from FY2019. Sen. Lesser served as the lead budget sponsor.
The legislature and Gov. Charles Baker approved the increase.
“We spend a lot of our time on Beacon Hill advocating for local programs and organizations to receive more funding, and the work you all do here at the Boys & Girls club makes it easy for us,” said Sen. Lesser. “It is a great joy of ours to keep delivering for you, because you keep delivering for this community.”
Rep. Michael J. Finn, Sen. James T. Welch, Sen. Donald F. Humason Jr., and area Boys & Girls club directors and board members joined Sen. Lesser and Rep. Wagner at the announcement.
State funding for the Boys & Girls club has increased more than $1 million since Sen. Lesser became the lead budget sponsor in 2016.
“You all come from all walks of life, but gather around this one cause, which is really important to this and other communities,” said Rep. Wagner. “You are unsung heroes.”
